Custom Background Option Is Now Available On Google Meet

Introduction:

Google Meet is a platform developed for video conferencing and office meetings. In the distressing times of Covid-19, people have been started the use of this application daily for their work meetings and also for video-calling their staff and team members, etc.

Google is now finally introducing custom backgrounds for its Meet video conferencing platform. They announced this news in a blog post. People who use Meet in Google’s Chrome browser can easily access the feature in Chrome OS as well as on Windows and Mac laptops and desktops. However, this feature is currently not available for mobiles. Google dropped hints that mobile users can expect this feature too in upcoming months.

How to Activate Background Option?

For activating this feature you don’t need to have any browser extension. You can simply add different background images from your collection of photos or from a gallery of images provided by Google that includes landscapes, abstract art, and offices, etc.

You don’t need to worry if you can’t access this option. It may take up to a week before all Google Meet users can access the new custom background option.

Zoom and Teams Already Had This Option:

Google Meet has introduced the option as Microsoft Teams and Zoom that are the competitors in the market already allow the use of custom images for meeting backgrounds. These three have been adding different features like several people are now regularly using these applications for school, college, university, office work, etc due to the situation of the pandemic. 

Blur Effect and Real-time Meetings:

Google Meet has also added a blur effect on meeting backgrounds. They also introduced real-time captioning, low-light mode, hand-raising, and a tile view called the giant Brady Bunch screen. 49 people can display over the screen at a time through this application.

Google incorporated the option of Google Meet into Gmail in May. You can easily create meetings of up to 100 people. There is no time limit available for anyone who has a Google account.

On Thursday, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai in the Q3 earning press release said Meet now has almost 235 million daily meetings and more than 7.5 billion daily video calls.

The app is always trying to upgrade its features and recently it was announced that Tinder was expanding its in-app video chat feature for users all over the world. This feature before its release was tested in different countries and after such successful experiments, the company has now decided to launch this feature globally.


This feature was previously only limited to iOS users but now this video chat feature is also available for android users.
